GED Test Information

Mansfield University's Center for Lifelong Learning administers the Adult Basic Education programs. These programs are funded through state or federal grants and must meet federal guidelines set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

GED testing provides an opportunity for individuals to demonstrate they have acquired the learning outcomes expected of a high school graduate and to be awarded a Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma.

The minimum age for testing is 18 years. Applicants between 16 and 18 years of age may qualify for GED testing upon the issuance of a court order or at the written request of one of the following:

  • an employer for the applicant who must establish high school equivalency for job opportunities;
  • a college or university official who will consider acceptance of the applicant on the basis of GED test scores;
  • a recruiting official for persons who wish to enter a branch of the Armed Forces for which high school equivalency is a prerequisite;
  • the director of a state institution for residents, patients, or inmates, no earlier than 90 days before anticipated release or discharge from the institution.

Candidates for testing may not be enrolled in a public, licensed private, registered accredited or licensed nonpublic secondary school.
