PERIOD I

The Art and Science of Origami - Immerse yourself in a weeklong investigation into the art and science of origami. During the course, students will create a plethora of artistic master-pieces by folding sheets of paper! Along the way, inquisitive folders will discover different geometric properties and encounter some "impossible" folds! Is origami an art or science? Make up your own mind at the conclusion of the course.

Everything Spain - The instructor will take students on an exhilarating tour of Spanish culture, history, and customs. The students will learn about the language, as well as popular cultural topics and authentic Spanish foods. By the time the students leave this class, they will be ready to give guided tours of Spain!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye - Join the Gifted Camp newspaper staff and help track down all of the breaking news. Students will have the chance to write news, opinion, sports, and feature articles. Along the way, students will learn how to lay out a newspaper, format digital pictures, and the secrets behind conducting spectacular interviews! The course culminates with the distribution of the camp newspaper.

Math & Logic - In a world dominated by computers, it is amazing when you realize that mathematics is what makes those computers work! In our math & logic class, students will be challenged with amazing problems and inexplicable solutions. Students will also have the chance to create their own puzzles and learn the basics of logic. The concept of warp speed was born in a class like this.

PERIOD II

Life Under the Sea - Our scuba diving class has been amazing our campers for over a decade! Scuba is introduced to the divers through a step-by-step mastery of snorkeling. By Friday, the entire class will spend a half-hour at the bottom of the pool on artificial breathing support! This course requires sound swimming skills, good health and a $30 equipment fee.

Digital Animation - Take your digital skills to the next level by turning ordinary digital camera photos into full short movies! Students will have the opportunity to master their photographic skills while simultaneously learning how to create animated movies. At the end of the course, students will have a unique DVD project that they can take home to show their friends and family.

Sports of Sorts - Students will have the pleasure of learning and practicing a new sport or activity each day of the week. Whether campers are playing basketball or racquetball, cooperative games or tennis, this class is sure to please. If you have lots of energy and like sports, this is your class. Don't forget your sneakers!

Beakers and Bubbles - Come see how chemistry is at work in our daily lives! During this class, students will investigate and learn about chemistry topics such as atoms, molecules, elements, and compounds. Join our chemistry instructor in a weeklong class full of exciting and surprising chemistry experiments and projects!

PERIOD III

Campus Chefs 2 - Like to cook? Would you like to know the science behind what you eat? Join us this year for the return of this popular class, this time with all new recipes and fun! Students will have the opportunity to create a scrumptious meal, all while learning the science behind creating great flavor in the kitchen. By the end of the week, students will have compiled a cookbook containing everything they created as well as extra space for new cooking ideas.

I, Robot - The future is now! Students will work in teams to create and program a robot designed to complete specific tasks. Whether scoring goals or completing an obstacle course, can you design the best robot for the task? Students will walk away with an appreciation of how robots work, as well as knowledge about building and programming robots. Ability to follow instructions is a must for this course!

Debate '08 - Just in time for the 2008 election, our debate class will challenge students to articulate their views on a variety of topics and ideas. Throughout the week, the students will learn how to research, as well as the secrets to forming solid arguments. Students will also be challenged in a variety of debate testing events. Perhaps a future president will make his or her way through this course!

Web Design - In our web design course, students will learn the secrets of creating an exhilarating personal web page. Students will be introduced to web design software, photo editing techniques, as well as web programming skills that will enable them to create their own amazing webpage. Learn the skills today in order to make the webpages of tomorrow.
