Summer Leadership Academy

The Mansfield Summer Leadership Academy is a program for minority youth funded by the Elmira School District, Williamsport School District, Mansfield University and a diversity and equity grant from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Office of the Chancellor.

The program is designed to encourage the college aspirations of minority students in 9th grade by promoting knowledge skills and self-confidence. Students are nominated to attend the Leadership Academy by their local teachers, principals, or guidance counselors.

This five-day Academy includes a variety of activities geared toward confidence building and will expose students to the university's programs of study, professors, and university extracurricular events. Students will also be exposed to career possibilities particularly in teaching and nursing. These fields have a great need for minority candidates in this geographic area.

Students live on campus and work with peer counselors, professors, and staff towards a culminating celebration of their strengths and ambitions.
